Mentor #2 – Monique Lhullier.

Direction: “Deconstructed Decades” – Deconstructed eveningwear/ballgowns inspired by the iconic look of the decades 20’s-80’s. Use unexpected fabrics like burlap, tweed and neoprene mixed with silks and tulle, etc. to create a dramatic look that is “not pretty”. Color palette is ecru, black, medium to light neutrals and army drab (so amazing).

This is the project I have always wanted. Avant garde, very deconstructed + over the top volume and drama. I can’t wait. Since this project is so intense, it was suggested that we work in pairs (that is if we want to have a portfolio…but if we want to spend entire 2nd semester sewing alone instead…we could take that option) I’m working with Michelle Yang (yay! we’re gonna rock it!) and we’re doing the 1960’s…iconic shapes are the big architectural ones…think 60’s couture…Balenciaga!!!

Here are some of my inspiration images:

Vintage Balenciaga + Comme des Garcons = Amazingness.

current Alessandro Dell’Acqua swipe + vintage swipe. What will it look like with treatments and deconstructed fabrics??

plastic washers and snaps necklace + ralph rucci’s suspension dress with bleach painted duchess satin??

fabric stories.

fabric treatments.

fused tulle. incredible looking. i heart this. seriously. god bless belgian fashion designers.

one of my croquis for week 1. dont think this is what it will look like. this will be designed and redesigned until there is just a reference of this look. promise. I’m better than this. these are prelim ideas.

same goes for the following illustrations…

Senior Year – Mentor #1 – Morgane le Fay.

Direction: Design dresses and tailored sportswear pieces inspired by the lotus flower using organic seaming, natural fibers and the color white.

I don’t have my final sketches because we had to send them to Liliana Casabal (designer for MLF) in NYC. I don’t have them back yet, but will post here when I do get them. Meanwhile, here are some of my prelim sketches and inspiration. I am currently making the garments she chose at sketch selection, so I’ll post pics of that when my garments are being fitted on the models.

Enjoy!

my latest obsession. sea of shoes. October 31, 2008

I found Jane and her mom, Judy’s blog “Sea of Shoes” while be-bopping on the net and I’m HOOKED. Jane has to be the absolute CUTEST and most stylish girl ever, and I even have my girls in studio obsessed too. We love Jane and her mom, and I especially love her writing style. So great. She is a serious fashionista and we heart her…big time.  Big shout out to Jane and Judy from the Seniors in Fashion Design @ Otis College of Art and Design in L.A. You gals make our day a little more fun! ;) Thanks!

Okay, so you’ve seen the sketches, the fitting photos….well ladies and gents…here are my Tommy Bahama garments on the RUNWAY!!! Amazingness. I sold them both at the silent auction, so I don’t have them anymore, but that is great because I loved designing something people were fighting over. hahaha.

It has been a seriously long time since I have posted, but I have been swamped with working. So, some updates are that I worked for Crispin & Basilio over the summer as an intern/assistant/fit model… Their clothes are amazing and you can click on the site and also catch their Spring 09 show @ Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (L.A.) I started my senior year @ Otis, and have some new sketches and pics from that… glad to be back!! xo

Nike. February 29, 2008

Okay, so if I haven’t mentioned before, we are doing a project with Nike, and we’re designing the Brasilian Men’s soccer uniforms/ warmups/ sportswear for the 2010 World Cup…pretty exciting, right? Yes. Roll news clip…

KNBC4

SOOOOO….I am on the on-field/kit team (basically, that means I’m designing the uniform and warmup). We had our first fitting Tuesday, which is our first run at the garments, not in the right fabrics, but basically getting an idea of fit, proportion and style lines…

Here’s a pic from my Nike fitting and Shareef looked awesome in my warmup! You can imagine this in a silky royal blue nylon with ombre piping in Brasil’s yellow blue and green (not in this cornflower ripstop…ugh) p.s. Designers out there…ripstop can be cool for some things, but just an FYI, it is NOT your friend. I had to take my sweet time (really) sewing this to make it look good. Never again! lol.

p.p.s. oh, and I don’t have a pic of my uniform but will be sure to post after the final fitting.

p.p.p.s. Please ignore the shapeless dress I am wearing that makes me look preggo…I’m not. lol.

Enjoy!
